Overview
Between 2017 and 2018, I partnered with NGOs and social enterprises across East Africa to amplify their work through visual media. A key collaboration was with the Karamoja Resilience Support Unit (KRSU), a research initiative administered by Tufts University and funded by USAID and Irish Aid.
Focused on the pastoralist communities of northeast Uganda, KRSU aimed to inform policy and research through fieldwork, outreach, and documentation. My role was to transform complex research and lived experiences into short-form videos and photography for training, advocacy, and community engagement.

CORE WORK
MEDIA PRODUCTION
Produced short-form video content for academic training and funder outreach. Photographed stakeholder meetings, livestock markets, and rural village life for use in USAID-commissioned reports and materials.
CONTent STRATEGY
Worked closely with KRSU teams, pastoralists, and community leaders to understand communication goals—particularly elevating local voices in policy and training materials.
STORY DEVELOPMENT
Conducted in-depth interviews and reviewed field research to shape accurate, human-centered narratives.
Coordinated travel and production across remote regions. Maintained strong communication with KRSU throughout. Navigated resource-limited environments with creativity—working directly with non-media professionals to solve production challenges on the ground.

RESULTS & TAKEAWAYS
Key OUTPUTS
Created a widely used video series for academic training on pastoralist communities.
Produced compelling visual content showcased at events and in official communications with funders.
Photography featured in USAID reports and used in high-level advocacy materials.
Helped center community perspectives in policy discussions through authentic storytelling.
Strengthened KRSU’s communication efforts across research, education, and outreach.
IMPACT
This project highlights my ability to lead production in complex, cross-cultural contexts—translating fieldwork into powerful visual stories that resonated with policymakers, academics, and local communities alike. It reinforced my belief in the impact of ethical, human-centered storytelling—especially in regions where voices are too often left out of the narrative.
